Together with my colleagues Professors Satoru Taira (Osaka City University) and Eckard Pache (University Wuerzburg), we are organizing an

ILA-post-conference on WTO law: Implementing the Doha Round
On 23 & 24 August 2004
In the Chateau of Büdingen (from the 11th century), room: library

We want to take the unique opportunity that the most well-known scholars of international trade law are coming to the ILA Conference Berlin from 16 to 22 August 2004. The other half of the participants will be practitioners (working in companies, law firms or in international organizations like EC/WTO). The participants will come from three regions of the world: Japan, Germany/EC, and USA.

Since most are flying via Frankfurt, we want to organize the ILA-post-conference very close to Frankfurt, namely 50 km away from Frankfurt in the medieval town of Büdingen, having a complete old city, never destroyed by any war, with houses from the 16th, 17th and 18th century and a chateau, privately owned by an Earl since the 11th century. Since the Earl of Ysenburg and Büdingen is very interested in having this conference, he will allow us to enter his private library (14th century) also. You will sleep in the hotel of the chateau of Büdingen, or in a near-by hotel.

The idea is to have circa 12 –15 presentations, focusing on the items of the Declaration of Doha, with a special emphasis on three subjects:
- health, environment and social standards,
- poverty, technical co-operation and capacity-building for developing countries,
- reforming the dispute settlement.

We will publish the presentations later, if possible. Each presentation should start with an interpretation of the relevant parts of the Doha Declaration, and analyse how this part may be implemented in the next future.

Transportation from Frankfurt can be organised. The program: see infra

We hope very much that you will participate and make a presentation. Please let us know as soon as possible, whether you will be able to come and give a presentation.
